that uses tested & proven hardware and software components.
The operating system of each and every bruAPP Backup Appliance is the bruAPP/OS™. A TOLIS Group-developed, custom backup-oriented
operating system derived from components of FreeBSD, Linux, and TOLIS Group-native code. This highly tuned bruAPP/OS forms
the heart of the bruAPP backup appliance. "Backup oriented" is key because the bruAPP Backup Appliance performs a single
function, and that is the backup and recovery of data. Unencumbered by traditional operating system overhead
and complexity, bruAPP/OS delivers rock solid operating system stability to assure uninterrupted and
seamless backup system operation today and into the future. The bruAPP/OS renders the bruAPP Backup Appliance's operation
totally impervious to software upgrades at the server system level.
The bruAPP Backup Appliance's hardware architecture is not fixed; rather it is structured to provide longevity via easy
expand ability as the needs of an organization grow. The capacity of the SATA-based disk stage can be
easily expanded as higher capacity hard drives become available. Using 1, 2, or 3 TB drives available
today - up to 72 TB of disk stage backup capacity can be configured in a 4U chassis. The net capacity is 63 TB of disk stage for the 4U model based on a RAID 6 + hot spare (net 66 TB for RAID-5) architecture. Each 3U and 4U bruAPP appliance contains redundant
power supplies for further reliability and may be expanded to support future growth.
The bruAPP Backup Appliance is available in 1U, 3U, and 4U rack mount configurations. The bruAPP Backup Appliance may also be bundled with your choice of external TOLIS Group tape autoloaders and libraries. All models support externally-connected tape drives and libraries without the need for special
drivers, even if the tape device was not purchased from TOLIS Group.
bruAPP Backup Appliance Models
The bruAPP Backup Appliance comes in three different rack-mount models. All 3U and 4U bruAPP Backup Appliances support expansion through the bruAPP Expander Kit. With internal RAID sizes from zero to 72TB (expansion units support up to 144TB), there's a bruAPP Backup Appliance for every need and budget.

bruAPP Expansion Appliances
Each 3U/4U bruAPP Backup Appliance supports modular expansion for expansion of the RAID for increased capacity. The purchase of these units require a master 3U or 4U bruAPP Backup Appliance.
bruAPP 3U Expansion Appliance
For all master bruAPP Backup Appliances in the 3U and 4U form factory. This expansion chassis supports as few as eight (8) disks with a maximum capacity of 16 disks. Hard drive sizes range from 500 GB to 3.0 TB. This chassis will expand the RAID of the master bruAPP system up to 42 TB net storage. This appliance will plug into the master bruAPP system or to another 3U or 4U bruAPP Expansion Appliance.
bruAPP 4U Expansion Appliance
For all master bruAPP Backup Appliances in the 3U and 4U form factory. This expansion chassis supports as few as eight (8) disks with a maximum capacity of 24 disks. Hard drive sizes range from 500 GB to 3.0 TB. This chassis will expand the RAID of the master bruAPP system up to 63 TB net storage. This appliance will plug into the master bruAPP system or to another 3U or 4U bruAPP Expansion Appliance.
bruAPP Tape Hardware Add-ons
The bruAPP Backup Appliance can be purchased with any of the following TOLIS Group tape devices for a D2T or D2D2T solution.
LTO Half-Height External
The LTO Half-Height External drive comes in LTO-4 and LTO-5 versions and provides Desktop placement for the tape drive (non-rack installation). With native transfer speeds up to 140MB/sec (LTO-5), the LTO Half-Height External tape drive provided excellent entry-level archive for small businesses.
1U SAS Rack
The 1U SAS Rack chassis features a single-drive or dual-drive configuration for a stand-alone tape drive. Where normal LTO external chassis require 2U worth of rack space, not including the shelf on which it's required to be placed, this 1U chassis enables bruAPP Backup Appliance customers the ability to have one or two stand-alone drive configurations. Ideal for smaller data backup installations or installations that require an additional tape device for restore purposes.
TGL1800 — 1U 8-Slot Single Drive Autoloader
The TGL1800 tape autoloader is the perfect entry-level tape autoloader to give your bruAPP Backup Appliance full Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape capabilities.
TGL2240 — 2U 24-Slot 2-Drive Library
The TGL2240 tape library is the perfect entry-level tape library to give your bruAPP Backup Appliance full Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape capabilities as well as future expansion capabilities. The TGL2240 can be expanded using the TGL-Expansion kit with a TGL4480 or TGL8960. With additional partition capabilities* the TGL2240 can be divided into two tape drives, each with 12-slots.
TGL4480 — 4U 48-Slot 4-Drive Library
The TGL4480 tape library is for the high-capacity demanding customers, or just to make sure that your business has room to grow. The TGL4480 can be expanded using the TGL-Expansion kit with another TGL4480 or the TGL8960. With additional partition capabilities* the TGL4480 can be divided into several different configurations: 1) All 48-slots available to all drives (not partitioned); 2) Two drives, each with 24-slots; 3) Three drives, one with 24-slots and two with 12-slots; 4) Four tape drives, each with 12-slots.
TGL8960 — 8U 96-Slot 4-Drive Library
The TGL8960 tape library is for large enterprise installations. With 96-slots, and the ability to expand it, it's got all of the capacity that you'll need. The TGL8960 can be expanded using the TGL-Expansion kit with another TGL8960 or the TGL4480. With additional partition capabilities* the TGL8960 can be divided into several different configurations: 1) All 96-slots available to all drives (not partitioned); 2) Two drives, each with 48-slots; 3) Three drives, two with 24-slots and two with 48-slots; 4) Four tape drives, each with 24-slots.
*A minimum of two tape drives is required for partitioning capabilities.
