Information
for Retrospect® Users
TOLIS Group is committed to the
support of Mac OS X. Since Apple first asked us to supply a "headless" Xserve backup
solution in early 2003, to the number of Mac OS X related solutions we provide today going
into tomorrow; you can continue to rely upon TOLIS Group to provide Macintosh "Backup You
Can Trust."
See: TOLIS "Behind the Scenes."
The following information provides
a glimpse into just some of the advantages of implementing BRU technology to provide native
Macintosh network backup and restore services. One important BRU demo evaluation point is
also referenced that must be taken into account when switching from other products.
- BRU Servers' extremely low overhead
allows fast, multiple, simultaneous streams of data to be written with little or no impact on
the performance of the server system, allowing you to finally realize the maximum performance
that your hardware can deliver.
- You can use the backup system
to do productive work while BRU is running - only 8% - 20% of system resources are used during
backup/restore operations on average.
- Recovering a single file or an
entire crashed system is fast & easy.
- BRU Server backs-up client systems
simultaneously, and without interleaving their data.
- Following the first full backup
of a client system, each incremental backup can be done without the user's awareness.
- Easily understood and clearly
defined e-mail reports document successful operation and issues should they arise - you will
always know the status of your backup.
- BRU delivers the highest level
of tape device support including the diagnosis of impending device failure and recommended action.
- BRU delivers unparalleled backup
& restore reliability. It is the only backup tool that can recover from a read error
during a restore instead of aborting, whether restoring from disk stage or tape.
- Verification of backups can
be without continued access to the original data which dramatically shortens the backup window.
This verification can be done immediately after the backup, even years later.
- If you are used to using "selectors"
for defining file exclusions, take a look at BRU Server's user defined bruxpat information.
- BRU Server supports PowerPC
and Intel-based systems
- Client licensing model does not
differentiate between high end server or desktop systems.
- BRU Server's logical-flow graphical
interface may be run from the BRU Server system or any other Mac OS X system, and
BRU Server is fully scriptable from the command line to customize backup operations to the organization's
need
- Comprehensive support of client
system OS's, including Windows®, as well as live-database backup support.
- Engineering-level
technical support that is uncharacteristically expert in the world of software,
and backup specifically, is provided
- bruCLONE™ is available
to perform disaster recovery on desktop Mac OS X systems
- Mac OS X is a Unix-core OS, and
BRU is expert at backing-up Unix systems since 1985

BRU on a system that contains, or has contained, Retrospect®, please first read Mac
