Product Characteristics
The bruAPP is a complete, self-contained data backup and restore system appliance. Everything needed
to comprise a self-contained network backup system is contained within the appliance hardware.
Physical
- Available in tower, 1U, and 2U, rackmount chassis configurations
- Robust BRU Server disk stage (D2D) comprised of up to 12 high-performance, exchangeable, Serial
ATA (SATA) hard disk drives
- VXA-3 and LTO-2 half-height tape drives are available in select models (other tape technology can
be quoted upon request)
- Dual gigabit Ethernet ports
- Integrated Host Bus Adapters to support external SCSI or Fibre Channel tape libraries (optional)

Operational
- Backup
and restore support for almost any networked computing environment
- Works
within NAS, SAN, and wireless environments
- Server
installation takes less than 5 minutes (disk-to-disk) - implementing
tape library technology takes a little longer
- Graphical,
character-based, and command line management consoles
- Supports
many different backup schedule types - full / differential / incremental,
grandfather / father / son, etc.
- Supports
all important operating system platform file attributes
- Supports
D2D and D2D2T backup and restore strategies
- True
Zero Impact design on any Server on the network
- Data
restore is a one step process - regardless of the data's location on
the disk stage or tape
- BRU Server
disk stage scalability limited only by the capacity of currently tested
and approved hard drives
- Number
of client systems supported by a single bruAPP is limited only by available
network bandwidth
- Client
system licenses (agents) do not differentiate between network Servers,
desk side systems, or laptops - one system; one license
- Rails
are available to mount tower cases in a rackmount stand, or tower can
be placed on its side on a rackmount shelf.
Reliability
- Tested
and proven quality components used throughout
- A dedicated,
complete backup and restore system not dependent on any network system
resources
- Proven
reliability of BRU software technology - errors can be circumvented
to continue restores that would cause other backup applications to abort
- Network
Server operating system upgrades do not impact bruAPP operation
- Catalogs
are stored on the archive media in addition to the server drive to allow
simple re-creation of the backup records should the bruAPP HDD fail
- AES 256-bit
encryption assures secure communication between client systems and bruAPP
Functionality
- Disk
stage and tape archives can be 100% verified for accuracy without continued
access to the original data
- Native
support of SCSI and Fibre-Channel attached tape libraries, regardless
of the number of tape drives or tape slots
- Can write
to multiple tape drives and tape libraries simultaneously
- Drive
Autobalancing™ eliminates overuse of any particular drive within
a multi-drive library
- Uses
TapeAlert™ to monitor, report, and correct tape and library issues
- Tape
bar code reader support
- Pre and
post job execution scripts may be run on a client system to enable support
for nearly any type of database or other live environment
- Network
traffic data compression is configurable and can provide better utilization
of available network bandwidth
Performance
- The
bruAPP delivers the shortest, fully verified, backup window in the industry
- The BRU
Server agents require very limited system resources allowing client
system backups to occur while the systems are in use, client system
backups to the disk stage are simultaneously and asynchronous.
- Following
an initial full backup of a client system, the subsequent incremental
or differential backups to the disk stage are virtually transparent
to the user in both time and system load
- Upstaging
from disk stage to tape occurs without the intervention of client systems
and zero impact is incurred on network bandwidth or any other system/server
on the network
- Thanks
to the highly tuned custom bruAPP/OS and high performance hardware components,
the bruAPP can take full advantage of the performance and capacity provided
by the latest tape drive technologies
- Multiple
backup streams from client systems to the disk stage can occur simultaneously
- further reducing your backup window.
- Client
system backups are not interleaved, thereby further shortening the time
to restore selected files and ensuring the reliability of the stored
data
