Robust D2D support, data protection on intermittently attached systems, and "Synchronization Module" are key deliverables

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona - May 11, 2004 - TOLIS Group, Inc., developer of the ultra-reliable BRU brand of data protection solutions today announces BRU Server™ for Linux, a client/server-based data backup and recovery solution that delivers robust data protection services across the enterprise - all while making system administration easier.

BRU was the first, non-development Linux end-user application released in 1994 at Linux kernel 0.99pl12. BRU Server for Linux is an extension of BRU's long-standing Linux data protection heritage and supports organizations of any size. BRU Server for Linux shares a common foundation with BRU Server for Mac OS X that is already supporting client/server computing on Mac systems worldwide.

BRU Server for Linux provides robust support of D2D (Disk-to-Disk), D2T (Disk -to-Tape), and D2D2T (Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape) backup strategies. BRU Server's disk stage can be RAID or JBOD-configured (Just a Bunch of Disks), "stacked" to receive parallel client system backup streams to further enhance performance, and each backup to disk can be fully verified for accuracy in an out-of-band operation.

Mobile systems, such as today's powerful laptops, are increasingly replacing client systems that have typically been hard-wired into the network. Reliance on the mobile system's owner to assure their data is backed-up is a dangerous strategy at best. BRU Server for Linux can be configured to automatically backup these systems whether they are physically plugged-in to the network or are configured to run wireless and enter the organizations wireless coverage area. Following the first full system backup, the incremental backing up of these systems is virtually transparent to the user.

Implementing BRU Server for Linux is straightforward, and much of the installation process is automated. Three interfaces (graphical, character-based, and command line) are available to allow the customization of operation to an organization's specific need. A "Synchronization Module" will be available before the end of Q2'04 that allows administrators to authorize end users to backup and restore a portion of their own files - a significant time saving capability. The scenario is much like transferring PDA information to the desktop. When using the synchronization capability, end-users transfer information to a dedicated portion of the server disk stage.

BRU Server for Linux scales easily from support of two networked systems to the largest of networked system topologies - gated only by the bandwidth of the network. BRU Server can write multiple, simultaneous data backup streams to multiple drives in a library and to multiple tape libraries.
