BRU™ BACKUP & RESTORE UTILITY JOINS HP® SERVICE CONTROL MANAGER PARTNER PROGRAM TO EASE SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION TASKS

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona - August 30, 2001 - The TOLIS Group, a Talented Organization Leveraging Intelligent Solutions, today announces BRU Backup & Restore Utility for Unix and Linux systems has been included in Hewlett-Packard's Service Ccontrol Manager partner program. BRU to provides data protection services for small to medium-sized Linux and HP-UX 11.xx environments in concert with HP's Service Control Manager software for Linux and HP-UX 11.xx. The combination makes the administering of systems easier and more reliable.

System administration can be a thankless task fraught with blame while providing little reward. Solutions that save time, scale easily, support heterogeneous systems, provide data protection, and allow the off-loading of limited responsibility are key components to ease the SysAdmin's role. This is the value HP Service Control Manager and BRU provide.

Like HP Service control Manager, BRU products scale from small to large system topologies and support mixed system environments. Both products can be operated from a Graphical User Interface (GUI), or from the command line to customize functionality when special considerations exist. Too, both products allow SysAdmins to define specific responsibility that can be granted to managers of discreet pieces of business. BRU takes the capability even further by providing SysAdmins the ability to allow backup privileges to select end-users.

BRU, at the users option, can be accessed directly from the HP Service control Manager to further support ease-of-operation. To enable this capability, the user need only download a Hewlett-Packard developed script that inserts a BRU-enabling icon into the HP Service control Manager's GUI.

Two additional, new, high-value functionality enhancements in BRU also support easing a SysAdmin's task. The ability to manage backups via the Web now unshackles SysAdmins by providing the flexibility to administer away from the desk.

The second enhancement optimizes the backup/archival process by migrating data off-line when it does not need to be accessible on-line. A SysAdmin simply defines the age of the data to be migrated and at least two archive volumes are created. This redundancy assures the safety of the archived data and effectively shrinks the size of on-line data to allow faster backup completion. An important ancillary benefit is valuable disk space is reclaimed, thereby helping to reduce the requirement to grow the disk farm. Additionally, once the archives are created, less on-line backup tape is required and this lends itself to reduced overall tape expenditures.

BRU has been supporting HP systems since 1987 (HP-UX 8.21) and Linux since 1994 (0.99 pl 12). Special BRU pricing applies to HP Service control Manager users who reference code: W1602W.
